Dissonance is the first book in the Malcolm Stone series. The series is slated to be a trilogy, but has the possibility for growth and a high probability for stories written about secondary characters. The three books all have musical terms as titles: Dissonance, Reverie, and Harmony. I chose Dissonance as an overall theme of the book as Malcolm’s life is inharmonious and unresolved. Dissonance is about the plight of Malcolm Stone after the death of his wife.

Malcolm tells his story and sometimes he might be lying to himself, not know the actual facts surrounding a circumstances, and he is most definitely a bit wishy-washy. He tells variations of the same story to different people, as someone who has something to hide might in reality. I tried to portray a realistic grieving, yet bitter husband.  (Malcolm Stone will be featured in April 15th’s A to Z post.)

Book Summary:

Malcolm is youngest son of Preston Stone, the largest liquor importer on the east coast since the prohibition. His family’s affluence has afforded him the opportunity to follow his passion of being a pianist. He married a successful local artist Anabelle Connolly.

They appeared to have the perfect life, but it eventually turned sour. After Anabelle’s death, the truth of their marriage can no longer be hidden. Years of Malcolm’s carefully constructed lies start unraveling at his feet. Will he be able to pick up the pieces of his shattered life?

Dissonance explores and exposes a violent relationship, infidelity, substance abuse, depression, and lies.
