The Writer

It feels like starting over

It’s been a while, a little more than two weeks to be exact.  Unfortunately, I needed to focus my energy on a project other than writing.  I am no closer to accomplishing that project than I was two months ago, but I have learned something in the process.  I can’t put my writing to the back burner and forget about it.  During my two weeks “off” of writing, I didn’t get that urge to write, but I did feel sort of empty.

I have always been annoyed when writers say they feel “lost” when they aren’t writing.  That has never been the truth for me and it still isn’t. But now I understand it a bit better, though I don’t feel lost, but I did feel like I was betraying and abandoning my dreams.  I realize I have a bad habit of putting my dreams on hold, especially when I am getting close to obtaining them, but not this time.  I am back and don’t plan on taking any unnecessary breaks in the near future, even though that other project is very important.  I am going to push forward and make time for writing.  It is important to me.  Even if I can only dedicate a few minutes a day, I am going to stay on track with publishing Dissonance by the end of the year and building my readership.

So, here is to starting over and getting back on track with my goals.  I am back to blogging, commenting, social media, and writing.  I hope you can forgive me for my absence.

Love-

AS

  1. I know what you mean, although I don’t feel empty. I feel that I’ve forgotten to do something important but can’t put my finger on it. It’s odd because I’m quite aware of not writing but I don’t really connect it to this feeling I get until I put my butt in the chair and start writing. That’s when it dawns on me, “Oh, this is what was important to do.”

    1. I absolutely love that description! That is probably closer to describing what I actually feel. I have a frantic ungrounded feeling. Hopefully dedicating a few hours a week back to writing will remedy that feeling 🙂

  2. Yay!! Welcome back 😀 If you feel your focus flagging at any point, feel free to get in touch – I’m on the same push to publish by the end of the year and also have another Very Important Project which needs attention. So we’re in a very similar bateau (better if it were a gateau, but hey…) So I say, Writers United in the drive to the finish line – onwards!!
